I hope this isnt a repost. Please let me know if it is.

Deal Extreme has the 250GB MS HD in the xbox 360 case for a little over !!! 71 bucks !!!. IMO...That's a MJ hair-on-fire hot deal !!!!

I dont need it as I harldy ever use my consoles (PC gamer 4 life) but its a great deal. I recently paid almost that much for a 120GB that still needs to be flashed and all that mess. This is plug-n-play !!!

Here u go:

Looks like a great deal - just be aware that it does not appear to be a MS brand unit.

In the pictures the unit shows "Microsoft Corporation Redomond WA" and it has a Microsoft hologram sticker.

Not that any of that means anything in China...

The drive caddy seems to be "legit" but a sticker can be copied by anyone with the right connections or equipment. I'm really not that concerned about it's authenticity. If it plugs in and is recognized by the 360.... good Enuf 4 me. I'm actually considering ordering one now. It's just too good of a deal to pass on. I fixed a RROD 360 that I found at a electronics recycler and had ordered a caddy and drive for it but I still need the drive flashed and dont want to deal with it. If I buy this one, I can use the WD Scorpio 120GB drive elsewhere and sell the caddy to a friend or feeBay.

Looks like a couple people in the comments seem to think this is a reflashed 120gb, and can't be filled above 111gb or so.

Also reading that it uses that duplicated WD key or whatever. I.E. it's probably not a MS drive.

Has anyone been banned for using a non-MS hdd?

It's definitely possible. I wanted to build my own xbox hard drive at one point, turns out MS won't allow hard drives they didn't sell. You will get banned if this is not legit.

I have a 20GB 360 - the kind with the HDMI port.

What I find ironic is that MS really goes out of their way to gouge people for their hardware - especially the wireless network adaptor and the hard drives. I don't really want to pay $150 to get the official wireless connect (I use bridged WRT, etc) and the official hard drive.

So - my 360 is always full and I have no space to buy content - which I would frequently do if storage was more plentiful.

For example - I am way behind on 24 this season - I would buy all the HD episodes on XBL and watch them on the 360 but right now I don't have the space and I had to reallocate my router that I used for the connection.

If they were smarter, they would make it easier for people to DL and store their online content.

Its totally worth it. I personally got a 250gb 7200rpm 16mb cache WD laptop harddrive for something like 40 bucks on amazon and modded it.

My bet is this is a 5400 rpm drive, so a little slower than my setup. But if your saving all of your games to the hard drive versus running disk, you will still notice a significant speed increase. This is a great deal for someone who doesn't want to bother flashing, copying over their data and all that. But if your up for getting your hands dirty definitely go the WD2500BEKT 250GB mod route.

As probably the only one around here that has one of these drives from DealExtreme, the reason I didn't post this deal was because of the possible problems that it could pose. So far no one I know about has been banned from live for using a non MS drive, and most likely they won't due to the number of people using self built drives with modded firmware.

As I had mentioned in a previous Xbox thread, I weighed the value of doing it myself versus ordering this part. I figured that the this drive was only $10 more, but the time to get shipped here was approximately a month. Mine came in a box with MW2 images and some strange Engrish, but the rest looks like a legit MS product...down to the hologram. It could be possible that some of these drives were "liberated" from a factory in China and turned black market, or they could be firmware modded, I don't know. I do know that mine works just fine, showed around 210 GB when installed, and I haven't been banned from Live... yet.

... or rather, someone who's already bought this HD from DX. I'm still on the fence on buying this. I could care less about the ban from MS. I intend to run my 2nd 360 offline only, because of the mods. I agree with the part you wrote about it taking a month for shipping. I've bought several flashlights and related items from DX and hate the wait time. Anyway... thanks for the info.

Yeah thanks for the deal, but with the rumors of bigger hdd and usb support I'd rather wait and get an official drive due to the risk of MS banning these modded hdds

Msoft already has 250gb hd's in the wild with special edition consoles. They will sell them independently soon. However you can get a faster better one if you mod it. Also microsoft will not ban you for a hard drive swap. Their are already 250gb legit hard drives out, so why would they ban them? Also they only ban you if you modify the files on it, modding save games etc. However if your using it as a regular harddrive they will not ban you. I know several people that have been running reflashed 250gb drives since the hack came about so far 0 bans. My console also works just perfect on live.

As for USB support . . . slower . . . and maxed out at 16gb partitions, not very useful if you ask me.

For those who do not want to take a chance on custom-building your own HDD for the XBox 360:

The official 250GB HDD accessory has been released and is supposed to be generally available at retail as of today. It can be purchased on Amazon right now for $130:
