Had a look on DVDRhelp.com and there doesn't seem to be any hacks for this machine, so you're probably better off getting a $37 Digix/Yamakawa 218 from Fry's.

Fry's usually have (and did have yesterday at Sunnyvale) a Digix DV288 for $37, it's hackable with a remote code to region free, still has Macrovision and RCE, but has composite video etc.

It seems to be the same hardware as the Yamakawa 218, so should play MP3s on DVD+-R (as well as CD-RW) and SVCDs....

hack it

ABTV101 is a winner!
I couldn't resist this DVD player because of the price! I was not disappointed. It plays my PAL discs flawlessly, and the video and sound are excellent. Absolutely a best buy. Beats my APEX players for overall quality.

might want to look at this unit again..one review said played an Indian DVD ..no problem and another said this was a revision of the Mintek 1600(I doubt that).. just better ..gave one to friend and she is very pleased with it..:)another reviewer ..
