I was disappointed with the 5770's limited memory bus, and the jump to 5850 was a bit too pricey, so the 5830 might be just what I'm looking for.

I might wait for 5830s with other 3rd party coolers though. I'm not a big fan of those leaf blower types....

anyone know if you can use the same aftermarket cooler for a 4890 on a 58xx series card? I was hoping to use the accelero s1 on my 8800gt on a 4890 (luckily, it fits both!), but since im now considering upgrading to a 5830, would the accelero s1 work on it? Thanks in advance.

I'll believe it when I see it. AMD is making good money off of $300+ Cypress cards; unless they have a stash of Cypress chips with just 1 more defective SIMD than a 5850, there's no sense in them selling a sub-$200 Cypress card (which is what 4890 prices would be).

I doubt 5830 will be cypress chips. It's probably juniper with 256bit bus that will be replacing 4890. 200mm chip for $200 sounds about right.

With 40nm yield issues I'll bet ATI has a truck load of Low bin Cypress Cores that would like to unload as "HD5830".

It can't be Juniper. Juniper doesn't have a 256-bit bus.

-With a 256-bit bus they'd kinda have to be Cypress chips. You can't just tack on more bus to a chip and call it a night, it has to be integrated into the design.

Its possible these will be cypress cores only horribly castrated with only 800SP's active, but I'm really holding out hope that we get a 1280/1120 SP & 64 TMU part thats just clocked at 600Mhz core to bring it down to 4890 performance (with plenty of OC headroom!).

I'm pretty sure there are even lower binned cypress cores to be made into 5830s. Its just like the 4830 were lower binned 4850s.
