Its been over 2 months since the last thread, old AT thread but this is still very much alive and a great deal. Nice 350 VA UPS with serial controlled management software for a decent price without any of the rebates, price matching, shipping charges, or coupon stuff (or taxes if you're in Oregon :)) to worry about. 20+ left at a Portland area (Jantzen Beach) Home Depot. In the electrical section next to the surge protectors. $18.00 is nice compared to $50-$60+ and belkin.com or best buy etc before rebates.

These are obviously on the weak side but perfect for mom's, gf's or friends e-machine or dell. For most AT-er's pick up two, one for computer, and one for monitor, powered speakers and other periferals.

PS: any of you deal hunters out there know another retailer with rebates that you could PM this to, to make it any hotter? (not on HD website see Belkin product link for product info)

Picked up the last one at the HD in Little Falls ( or is it Wayne) NJ. To bad, I wanted to buy 2 of them.

darqice--

Thanks for bringing this up. I just found out the hard way that my 500 Blackout Buster doesn't like running 2 pcs and 2 monitors anymore......maybe I can find a few tonight.

Watch out. I checked out my local Home Depot yesterday, and they had these for $25. Still a decent price, but not as good as $18.

I picked up 2 of them at the midtown Omaha location, they still have them priced as $18. They had several left....

[Edit] I meant to say I picked them up tonight.

I purchased one from OfficeMax for $19.99+tax in B&M, however, was not too satisfied with the battery life.

Comments:
350VA = 190 Watts x up to 15 minutes back up time (advertised on box)

In my tests, more like 4 minutes on my cheap system Pentium II 300, 250Watt power supply. However, on my athlon system XP 2100+, pulling out the plug after the UPS was fully charged was not enough to maintain my 300Watt Power supply and my 19" CRT monitor! I have no other things connected to the UPS.....and my system got zapped....meaning the UPS did not have enough to sustain my system for even one second! Do a road test of this in house to see if this low capacity UPS meets your needs at all.

Strange how once in a while, this UPS gives out a shrill noise even though the rest of the house doesn't have a glitch in surge or power outage.....very very annoying, thought it was the smoke alarm at first...

Lasts 2-3 years per reviews (it is a sealed lead acid battery). In other words, there is a lifespan to these things.

There may be a reason why so many stores are clearing out this item.....

If you can get into your CompUSA on Friday night. We have one in town here and its going to be a mad house.... This deal is easier to get and much less hassle. I'm going to test one of mine on my wife's system, I'll report tomorrow how well it works.

Cooldvd, your system and montior simply drew too much power for the UPS to keep up with. Rather than put out "bad power" it just didn't switch on at all.

Most people have no real need to hook up a monitor to a UPS. My power outages are typically less than 20 seconds, so just putting just the PC on the battery is perfect.

I actually don't have this UPS on my computer (I have a 1400va model for that) but I bought one to hook up to my UltimateTV, cordless phone, and stereo receiver. Since the ultimatetv is on all the time (even when I'm not watching tv) this is perfect for it or other "electronic appliances."

I *believe* this UPS should be able to power a P4 system AND an LCD monitor for at least a minute, but YMMV.

Both my UPSs occasionally bleep, probably about once or twice a week. I assume this is from a momentary voltage drop/spike. The $39 belkin doesn't do it any more often than my $300 rackmount model.

Edit: Alarm clock? The clock itself would hardly use any power, but because of the overhead of the converter etc, I'd guess that you'd get anywhere between 30-60 minutes out of it... actually I'm not even positive you could power /just/ an alarm clock from it.

FYi I get about 30s of power on an Athlon XP 1900+, 2x7200rpm HD and GeForce4 4800, with no monitor connected. It's barely enough to get the computer to go in hibernation in time.
On the other hand it's great protection for under 15s outages, which are common in my area. I bought one at CC on Black Friday and I'm going back for one at compUSA tomorrow (well, technically I bought it today and I'll go back in sometimes tomorrow night to get a price adjustment)

These are good to have just for the fact that they are line-conditioners, meaning they'll save your power supplies a lot of abuse from crappy current.

So is it good for protecting your living room stuff too (TV, DVD, VCR, etc...)?

These have been sold out in my area for months. I got the last one at one HD and the other locations were already cleared out. Besides this particular unit, the HD's here didn't carry any other UPS units.
