In some areas, the number of attacks rose even more dramatically, when compared with data from a year earlier. Incidents increased by 133 percent in Colorado, 120 percent in Chicago and 43 percent in New York. In San Francisco, which became ground zero in the struggle over same-sex marriage rights in February, incidents in the last half of 2003 rose 14 percent.

"This is a stunning increase," Denise de Percin, director of the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, told the Rocky Mountain News. "The polarized daily coverage of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues has raised the profile of our community and galvanized into action the people who hate us."

Well I should clarify...I'm not talking only about rights, but also overall public opinion and hatred (including violence) of homosexuals. Much of the world is like this anyways.

Attitudes will change as older generations die. Trying to force people into acceptance only breeds contempt and bitterness.

Well that's the cause, but it doesn't justify the hate and violence.

Thankfully the youth of the country as a whole don't really see homosexuals as a problem.

cause that is because of the educrats that spread that crap. I've seen polls of freshman in college getting more conservative though. Still parts of the country you better stay in the closet or else that will not change.

Depends on the particular country.

Over all violence against blacks in the should would have reduced if they just stopped making nose and went back to the way things where, same with the homosexuals. The kids playing at 'marriage' in Cali et al. should consider the outcome in hick-vill for the local gay-bar patron.

playing house and sticking it in the face of 'the man' isn't worth working up this kind of hate, anti-gay bigotry would die of it's own means over a generation, but bringing it to the front like the 'rights activists' have, they do nothing but give the stupid kid in Colorado someone to hate; creating another generation of bigots.

Well most of the world is backwards in this respect...but yeah, I guess those areas as well as some areas of Europe, Africa, and Asia would be more backwards.
