:disgust:

Does anyone know who I would report an incompetent collection agency to?

These rocket scientists have concluded I have not paid a bill back in 2000. This is contrary to the fact that I have a copy of the cashed check and have faxed over these copies 3 times. Every year I go through this with them.

They do not return calls and the last time a dumbass has the gall to tell me they will make permanent notations on my credit history even though I offered to fax him proof that I did pay.

Any ideas on how to get these idiots to pay attention?

Help would be appreciated.....

Contact your State's Attorney, that would be your best bet. You can contact the BBB too, but that won't help resolve your problem.

I dunno about in the U.S.A but here in Canada a collector cannot call you more than three times a day. If they do you can sue them for harassment and have all pending collections against you dropped.

The trick is to piss them off the first three times enough to get them to call you back a fourth time ie hang up the first time, screw around with them the second time and the third time rile them a bit. Explain how you had hot sex with their girlfriend ;)

They actually dont call 3 times a day. They write their collection wants every year. Sometimes twice. They call a few times and I fax them proof. They then become silent until next year. Then we play the same f#@&* game over again.

It is just very annoying. I try hard to have a perfect history in the event I want to buy something large in the future. However, being threatened by individuals that have severely questionable mental capacity leaves me frustrated.

After they call a number, you would think that they have some idea of whats going on. I asked them how do I remove the negative marks on my record because your company made a mistake. Our ever so brillant representative says "I don't know". I state that if you know how to leave a negative mark, surely you know how to remove it. "I don't know this never happens...." Do you know who I would talk to to straighten this out? "I don't know. Let me ask my manager"

"I don't know" gets old after talking to this guy for 15 minutes. And I go through this every year.

The truly sad thing is that I am stupid enough to think they can actually figure this crap out . Go figure. Our financial well being might rely on a bunch of clowns like this guy sometime in the future.

scary thought eh?

By the way thanks for the state attorney suggestion....
I might consider telling the guy how good his girlfriend was, however I think that if they guy is so unsure of things, he might be androgenous(sp?).....

If you can talk to somebody (sane enough) from that collection agency, ask them who reported the "unpaid bill" to them. Then call them since they are the only one who can ask for a retraction but be sure to ask for a copy of the retraction letter. give them a month (at least) and call the CA again for update, if nothing happened then its time to call your DA's office.

Goodluck, i had the same situation 2 years ago.

Thanks for the replys.

I checked my credit ratings and it turns out I am in the clear.

I called the people that stated I owed them money. The lady said my payments are not shown in their records.

They point me to a collection agency. The collection agency said that my account was made prior to them transfering into a new system. They show me as not having paid, but do not have an accurate listing of my history. Basically they have no idea what is happening, except I owe them money.

It gets better. It turns out that the collection agency hounding me is actually a collection agency for a collection agency, for the original provider....

That is so messed up. If I was anyone but me, I would almost find this entertaining.

I faxed my info one last time. I suppose if they cant get their crap together I will opt for the other suggestions listed above....

My ex-g/f told me that she's going to start working at a law firm doing collections. Potential pay is >$100,000 a year if you're good. That just gives me one more reason to hate her. :D
