So here I am in Minneapolis and I can tell you that the republicans are not partying hard at all. They're just not spending any money at restaurants or strip clubs or anyplace else. The strippers were positively sad on Monday. I wouldn't even know they were in town if I were to use nightlife as the sole indicator.

I discussed with my coworkers about why they heck the republicans aren't going out at all. Historically, republicans are big spenders during conventions based upon what I have read. I can only conclude that the republicans are not going out because they are so depressed because they think they have no chance this election cycle. That was the only reason I can think of.

So let's hear everyone's opinion on this. Anyone else here in the twin cities? Anyone else seeing anything?

Could be the anarchists attacking delegates, throwing shit on people, blocking roads, and vandalizing private property.

Or I guess it could be they are soo depressed about an election in 2 months they arent out spending like drunken sailors

I am assuming you are talking about the story that ran this morning about shops in downtown st. paul seeing their sales drop to nearly zero? Well they should consult the city about why they are allowing anarchists so damn close to the convention center. I am glad that I work in downtown Minneapolis. Of course yesterday I havent seen so many people high and drunk in the streets in my time down here. And these people were clearly not delegates.

These conventions bring out the whackjobs that is for sure.

There were actually few protestors story. A lot less than the 50000 they were planning on.

And I haven't read that article you mention.

I watched a bit of the convention on TV and you could see lots of empty seats. The speakers that were up last night weren't really top billing or anything, but that was still very surprising to me.

Yeah really. The excel energy center isn't even that big. It's capacity is only 18,064 according to wikipedia. On the other hand, 70,000 saw Obama talk.

I'm just saying that if even the republican party members can't get enthusiastic for their candidate, how can the unaffiliated voters possibly get excited for him?

I am aware of the fewer than expected protestors. But the few who are out of control have done enough damage to keep people from freely venturing about. The people I saw yesterday should probably be locked in a drunk tank or a mental institution. The guy who came out of nowhere who looked like he just got back from the dump where they had their neo-nazi meeting who was on the elevator with me to the garage couldnt speak even when he tried. I was really expecting this guy to go ape shit on me at some point. But he stumbled off into the underground garage. No idea what he was up to.

This is in downtown minneapolis where there hasnt been any protests or attacks.

i did like the one guy the news had on talking about msp. one of his lines was "people talk about it gets cold, it doesn" really get cold but that helps keep people away." I've gotten off an airplane at msp in the middle of winter, it's damned cold. and when you have to move your drinks from the garage to inside cause they'd bust open, that's really damned cold.

One theory: they're at the corporate-sponsored private parties. I don't know how many are, just speculation.

There is just something about the image of elephants swinging from the Chandeliers that does not quite compute. And in some ways strippers and republicans have different methods but the same end goal.

Strippers take off their clothes and show you what is really underneath. And hope for tuck a buck chump change.

And the GOP try to cloth their real agenda behind smoke and mirrors. And they make the real big bucks when it works.

Yeah dude, you can't get ANYWHERE without some punk kid in black chasing you down and lighting you on fire. That city is in CHAOS! /sarcasm

Go back to bed, you're all tuckered out.

If gayness is a "choice," I don't see why it is bad to be making fun of people who lambaste homosexuality and then "choose" it.
