Well that's unfortunate. :(

Of course, 90 years, not bad.

Just think, when you're in your 50s and 60s who of your generation will you mourn?

There are a few people whom, after a while, I began suspect would never die. A.C. Clarke, unfortunately, was one of them. So long to a true visionary and a great author. I read all of the Space Odessy books, and quite a few of his others, while I was in highschool. Need to go through some of them again, I think.

I've read his books for so long, it feels like losing an old friend.

I think I first started reading his books in the early/mid 60's...and have re-read most of them again and again...GREAT author, wonder inventor.

Damn...time for a surge in his book sales. Too bad it would take something like this.

That article presents a good question...how do you find the next Arthur C. Clarke? Have we had any sci-fi writers in our generation that come close to comparing?

R.I.P. I really hope that the Rendezvous with Rama movie does the book justice. It is my favorite hard sci-fi novel of all time.

Agreed. The first one was absolutely amazing. I never cared much for the sequels...they were OK, but just OK.

Loved the first one, tolerated the second, couldn't finish the third one.

He believed cryonics has a very high chance of success yet chose not to contribute himself to the procedure. There's something noble about that.

In 3001 Poole is informed of the death of religion on earth and that man of the previous millenium was considered to have been acting under a sort of mass delusion. He's probably right about us not realizing it for another 1000 years.

I read them all for the hell of it. I agree that they were drastically lower in quality. There were certainly interesting concepts, but it was obvious that Gentry Lee wrote the bulk of the content. It is also obvious that he is no Arthur C. Clarke :(
