Reply at the end of a thread instead of the beginning?

I am curious if anyone thought of this already ...

Usually when I reply or add comments in a thread, I end up having to scroll down to the end a couple of times because I am usually responding to what the last couple of people said. It is kind of a pain to go back and forth like this. If the empty reply box opened at the END of the thread instead of the beginning ... VOILA - problem solved.

Comments?

Perhaps I was unclear.

When I hit reply, an empty box for me to type my reply message appears at the TOP of the thread. My question is, why does this empty box not appear at the BOTTOM of the thread, so I can read the most recent answers while composing my reply?

I've actually opened up a single thread in two windows, so that I could compose a reply with less risk of sticking my foot in my mouth.
I can certainly understand where you're coming from.

Because that is where it should be if you order your messages properly you can look at them in anyway you want ascending or descending allow 100 to be viewed etc. Every other application does it this way as well, I can't even fathom the amount of hate mail we would get if we put it at the bottom so people had to *CRINGE* scroll to get to it.

Plus in the larger threads, with say 60 longish messages, 56k modem users may have to wait a while until the whole page loads for them to write their reply...

I see your point about not putting it at the bottom! Perhaps it could just load the reply window and the message you are replying to though (not the entire thread), could that work?

Zuni, I see your point. Didn't know you could change the order of messages within a thread. As a matter of fact, I hadn't been in to the 'customize' area lately ... wow! I ended up eliminating a few categories that I never visit, which is very cool. You have been doing a fantastic job with the forums ... thanks, and great work.

P.S. Have you ever thought about allowing users to order the forum categories in the way that they want?
