they are made with the same grooving and face thickness but usually with cheaper material.

how much of a difference does the material make? i would imagine that is pretty important.

Of course it is. Better made clubs are more forgiving and for weekend players are more necessary. Your bad shots arent as bad with properly made clubs. A good hit is a good hit with any equipment. Its the bad ones that we worry about. You can buy cheap knock off club heads and put quality shafts on them and they will be only as good as the quality of the head. Custom club fitting is a huge factor in ones game. When buying clubs off the rack they come with the same lie and loft and that is not the right fit for every player. Offsets arent for every player either. There are a lot of factors in going into buying the proper set for each person. Having said that, if you are a high handicapper and just play for fun then all this is moot. You really wont see much of a difference because you dont hit the ball the same eveytime.

awesome thread. i'm going to bookmark that and read it later.

That was written about 9 months ago. The parts about which players are endorsing or using what equipment are no longer accurate. Many player sign with new companies in the off-season and ad campaigns are based on who did what last year. For example Sergio no longer endorses the Maxfli ball. The rest of it still holds true.
