Final price after rebates is $149.99....seems like a hot deal, assuming they honor the MIR's.
 
ReplayTV was bought by Denon and Marantz. No worries about it going anywhere for the immediate future.
 
Sonicblue is gone but it appears that D&M will keep the Replay line going strong. New software (5.0) is being beta-tested and should be rolling out soon with lots of cool new features.
 
You might be able to save another $5 by pricematching the Best Buy price at your local Circuit City.

$300 (price at CC)
- $55 (110% of difference)
- $100 (rebates)
$145 total plus tax.

Does anyone know if CC will PM the price from BB's site, or does the price have to be in a printed ad?

I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while. Does anyone have a Replay that they could comment on? I have heard that there is a significant pause while switching channels - is that the case?
 
I have a 4050 model, and I love it. It has completely changed the way I watch tv. There is a short pause with channel changing on my model (1 sec or less), but I have heard the 50xx series is much higher delay. On the other hand, the 50xx series has higher picture quality, so it's a tossup. I'm considering upgrading to the 5040 before the prices go up in June. If you don't have a ReplayTV, and are intrigued by the features, I highly suggest you get one and see for yourself.
 
Picked mine up at Bestbuy last night. So far so good. I really like being able to pause live tv. I'm a bit concerned that 40 hours might not be enough, so I may throw in a bigger hard drive soon, but for now i'll use DVArchive (very cool program) to copy shows back and forth to my pc.

Yes there is quite a delay when switching channels when it is hooked up via the IR Blaster. On my digital cable box, it can take a good 5 seconds between pressing the channel up, and it going a channel up. So, channel surfing is tough. But I've gotten in the habit of using the program menu and looking at the name and description of the shows and then changing channels when I find something.
 
I bought the 5040 at BB last night. I used the coupon from the PSP class-action settlement and got an additional 15% off. My total was $224 including tax. After activation and rebates the total comes to $374. I just sold my 3-year old Showstopper ReplayTV on eBay for $360, so it didn't cost much to upgrade. Plus my Showstopper was so old that I was getting worried that something could go wrong with it. A great deal, especially with the service fees going up.

Yup..same situation here. You will appreciate the guide though...it beats channel surfing. You always know what is on without actually changing the channel. 🙂
 
Anyone using this with a cable box? If so... how does it work exactly? I have Time Warner Digital Cable... I don't see how this thing would be able to change the channel.

If anyone has experience using this with a cable box, please PM me if you don't mind. I've been on the fence about getting one of these forever.

 
I bought one around Christmas time for the same price. I upgraded the drive to the 175gb drive from CUSA. It definitely makes a difference with menu speed.

Also, a major software upgrade will be out soon that will fix a lot of "quirks" with the units.

Define 'immediate' future. Are we talking 3-6 months, something shorter, or something longer. Just because D&M might have bought Replay does not mean they'll continue the service, nor indefantely. Maybe there was some technology that Replay had ownership of that D&M wanted without having to bare the brunt of the MPA and accompanying lawsuits.

Personally, I'll stick with a company that hasn't legally gone down the drain. Besides, if the D&M division known as Replay was in great shape I doubt they would be giving away (and for $150 they are) for no good reason.
 
There are words, new company will take over at May 15. Final decision on previous rebate will be made; if you bought after takeover, you should be able to get yours.

Lots of retailers (buy.com, amazon.com, best buy, circuit city) are advertising this rebate. I don't know why you would assume that suddenly it's not going to be honored. Maxtor rebates didn't become void when the company was sold. It's not like they just went out of business.

I have a Time Warner Digi Cable box. It works through the IR Blaster. I haven't had any problems with my setup.

I called them, the lady answered the phone said it should be fine; but she also told me about the new company takeover, and there will be an announcement about rebates. She suggested only a few days until takeover, if any doubt, it is better to wait.

New company is not automatically responsible for those old rebates; there are many cases, I had one exprience. I did not receive 3dfx voodoo card $30 rebate, because nVidia only bought part of the company (mainly tech) -- however, after I talked to them, if I directly traded in my old voodoo3 with them, I can get extra $20 discount; it is another story I didn't do it.

I really wish whole thing goes well, I like commical-advanced feature so much, one thing Tivo just can't compare.
