My UPS aren?t holding as much of a charge


I have two different UPS?s backing up two different computers. They?re a couple of years od now & don?t seem to have the reserve they used to.

Is there a reason I can?t use an extra car battery and connect it to both UPS? Other then not fitting into the UPS, and having to run a couple of wires is there a downside?

It?s got a higher capacity.
 
The voltages need to be correct some ups's do not use 12V batteries, also you really want to use a sealed Gel Cell battery and not a car battery for a UPS due to envirmental issues also the chargers in UPS's are designed to work w/ a specific capasity battery and may not work correctly with something larger or smaller.

You definitely do not want to use a car battery indoors,the fumes that come from a car battery is highly explosive.

The "fumes," of course, are nothing more than hydrogen gas. If concentrated, yes, very dangerous. It's not like the things gush hydrogen though. Otherwise, the "hydrogen economy" wouldn't be a problem - generate a bit of hydrogen to get started, use it to charge lead-acid batteries, which would then release more hydrogen.
Wouldn't it be great if that would work?🙂
 
I've never seen UPS replacement batteries in the Hot Deals section... You will often find it cheaper to replace the whole UPS than just replacing the batteries. Good brands of GC batteries are Panasonic and Yuasa. Use Google or Froogle to find deals on batteries.

Interstate Battery Warehouse (the depot for all retail outlets) will have agm batteries at a reasonable price. Check the yellow pages.
BTW, you can usually double the capacity of your battery (charging wise), if your not concerned about getting it back in the case. Or if you have some extra room in the case, fill it up.
 
I was going to check in hot deals for complete UPS. After rebates that may be less expensive then just the battery.
