Lord Evermore I do agree with what you said, in that only the people that speak up are the ones that have something wrong with it. But overall, the sheer number of complaints for the K7S5A are more than most other boards. Although, there are probably a very large number of people purchasing them at the same time, so therefore there could ALSO be an increase in the number of satisfied users, but who's to know? 
At any rate, the price IS very hard to beat, since the computers my parents use right now w/ a 1.3 Tbird chip is using a K7S5A board.
I just wanted to perhaps warn him against a board that MIGHT die on him, or perhaps be prepared for something. As for majewski9's comment on the new version, (3.X) of the boards, that seems fairly logical, and hopefully rings true of the new version of K7S5A boards.
Given this information, and seeing that you're probably going straight for value, then I'm gonna go out on a limb and reluctantly recommend the K7S5A, simply b/c the value is outstanding.....if you get a good board.
