Replacing notebook batteries ?

Just got a notebook from BB the gateway 579 one (CC one had 4 cell battery and no dvd burner so no good for me) anyways i was wondering do notebook batteries eventually go out and/or lose their ability to charge like most rechargeable batteries and if so after how long? Are they easy to find replacements for? I just tried via ebay google and even gateway site to look for replacements but could not find any. Is this somethin to be worried about?

Also the scroll pad (up down scrolling on side of touchpad) does not work out of box, tried diff programs that it should support like IE, firefox, notepad etc. but it won't scroll with it and dunno whats up!

Thanks for any response/help!

Notebook batteries wear out over time like any rechargeable unit. They are subject to "death" anytime after 3 years.

There are lots of after market notebook battery vendors. Do a Google for Notebook batteries.

If you know the specific battery model number for your Gateway, you can start with that.

Make sure your touchpad is not turned OFF in BIOS. Sounds like it could need a return to the source.

Are you sure the notebook model is 579? Check the decal on the bottom.

sorry the model # is MX6030 and the touchpad works fine just the scrolling thing (has up down arrow on side of it) doesnt work

OK - that helps. Here is the Gateway site for that model:

6030

Look under COMPONENTS for the various battery options. As for the scroller on the side of the touchpad - that may be a driver. I never use that - always connect a small, USB optical mouse with a scroll wheel. Touchpads in general suck, IMHO. 🙂

Anyway, here is how to change the touchpad settings on that model:

It could be that your touchpad simply isn't set up for scrolling yet - have you looked through whatever touchpad configuration utility Gateway included to make sure that scrolling is enabled?

If you download the newest driver for the touchpad it should fix it, it wasnt working in firefox at first but downloading the updated driver fixed that.
