replacing my water cooling kit piece by piece - need help!

So here's the deal - I currently have a Thermaltake Aquarius II watercooling kit running in my computer, and it just isn't enough. I think I've only seen maybe a 5 degree F temperature difference between it and my old volcano 9 HSF/fan. So, I'm slowly replacing it piece by piece. It runs off of 3/8" ID connections/tubing (as far as I remember), so I have a good 20' strand of 3/8" ID tubing. Now, here's the thing. As far as the Aquarius II system goes, it runs from a little reservoir with 2 3/8" barbs to the intake on the little bitch pump, then out the pump to the intake on the cpu block, out the cpu block to the radiator, out the radiator back to the pump. Here's what I've gotten now. I have in my possession a Eheim 1250 pump to replace that weak ass TT pump. Problem with this is that I DO have a 3/8" intake on the TT, but the output is 1/2". Where (locally without going online to find it) can I get a converter of some sort to go from 1/2" to 3/8"? Also, I have a small GPU block with 3/8" barbs that I wanted to incorporate into this. How would I go about setting it up? What I mean is what would be the easiest path for the water to travel in order to cool BOTH the gpu AND the cpu?

Prob find one at home depot of lowes.

Also if you want to incoporate a gpu block then I suggest upgrading the whole system together rather than piece by piece, you'll be much better off doing it this way as your going to run into issues otherwise.

Also that 1250 is 110v and the old aquarius runs off the 12v off your psu, so you might need a relay too.

I would suggest going with something like a danger den maze 4 , a good decent sized radiator and 1/2" tubing all round.
Routing it all should be something like cpu-gpu-radiator-res-pump.

you mean res-pump-cpu-gpu-radiator? ;p Also, I found a converter from 1/2" to 3/8", so I COULD in all terms use the pump right now - I just don't know if I wanna mess with it. Also, what do you mean by I may need a new relay? Details 😉

I'd build my own reservior out of a piece of tupperware but if you're into looks on your case might get one of those bayres. Before when I almost switched to water cooling I bought a 5 dollar Rubbermaid Stainshield tupperware mounted some tubing barbs on it, worked great outside the case and looked okay

thought the aqaurius uses 3/8in OD and 1/4in ID tube?
oh well personally id ditch that thing and get a full out 1/2in ID system.

D-tek pro core and shroud (unless you buy a bare heater core and mod it yourself)
D-tek TC-4 rev2 , danger den maze3 (these if you ever decide to try a peltier) or the D-tek white water....its cathars white water block....which is the best (currently untill the cascade is out) that you can buy...however a pelt cant be used with it.
Eheim 1250 (317gal/hr) or the hydor L30 or best of all an Iwaki MD-20RLXT...but its pricey.
about 6 feet of 1/2in ID tygon or cleerflex....i prefer tygon.
as fo ra res....well premade you can get an innovattek tank-o-matic and mod it to 1/2in like i did..........real easy to do. o rget a danger den cylinder style res or a criticool waterplant........stay away fromt he 5.25in bay res..they tend to leak
water wetter for anti corrosion of course 🙂
and a bottle of betadine...use about a table spoon in your loop to kill pretty much anything thatll even try to grow....i pimp this stuff all the time over at the hardforums 🙂
and do NOT use those plastic hose clamps go to a local auto parts store and get steel worm clamps (you know they look like a steel band with a screw that you tighten or loosen)

set it all up and your set 🙂

my setup can be seen here this was with my maze3 and black ice xtreme....both damn fine products i might add ! if you are short on space hook up with the xtreme if not then relax with the d-tek core

and my temps with the maze3 and black ice xtreme can be seen here

disreguard the case temp being high. the ABIT KD7-RAID has its case temp sensor placed right up near the power regulating mosfets so at anytime i keep gettin gcase temps like that 🙁 BIOS reads the same thing so NO MBM IS NOT set on the wrong sensor...i spent nearly 6 hours one day testing it....ABIt put the sensor is a screwed up place 🙁
but if you look you can see im running a fairly high vcore and a decently high speed 2500+ barton 🙂

One thing to note, I would suggest making sure all your components are of the same material, ie copper or aluminum just to be on the safe side.
Also what size case do you have, might want to think about what you can physically put inside it now your upgrading all your components especially the radiator/heatercore !

yeah, my intentions right now are to go completely 1/2" if possible, all run through the eheim. I'm looking at a dangerden maze 3 and a black ice xtreme (as I don't have very much room in my case for anything else). And yes, I did find the aquarius II is 3/8" OD and not ID. Thanks for clearing that up. Eventually I'll just take the whole thing out and get rid of it and put in all new stuff. I'm still wondering if someone has a tutorial of some sort on making a custom res using 1/2" barbs? Thanks.

as long as you run an anti-corrosion additive youll be fine. also if any aluminum is anodized youll be ok too.

Water Wetter can be found at your better speed shops. Try Automobile Performance/Racing Parts and Equipment in your yellow pages.
