Replacing my processor--worthwhile?

74$ for the E5200, and I'm on an old E6300 that runs hot..

Intel DP35DP motherboard, wasn't looking to overclock. Just want something cooler/faster. The lower FSB isn't going to hurt performance in any way the 700mHz difference won't make up for, right?

Without overclocking, you are looking at a performance increase of about 35%. That's not really that much. Then again, it's only $74. What tasks are running slow on your computer that makes you want to upgrade?

Though I'd go with his last question as well, what makes you think you need an upgrade? Usually if you can't answer this question, it's not worthwhile.

35% is best case; bus and RAM speed are decreasing. Unless you intend to overclock, I'd say it's not worth it.

E6300 is 1.86ghz and E5200 is 2.5ghz is about 35% difference in clock speed....I am assumming Russiansensation only did the math and has not taken into account the bus speed of only 800mhz versus 1066mhz...That will maybe make less then 5%...

The real advantage would be in ocing....

You are right...it runs very cool...look at other thread in here....YOU could do a simple 9x333 OC for 3ghz I bet a stock vcore and still be only in the 50's for load....

MOst people forget you could get something for the E6300...look at how much the morons on ebay will pay for that....This could almost be a straight across transation...so Hell yes it is worth it....
