Replacing Motherboard Question

I am fixing a computer for a friend's Grandma. I diagnosed the problem to be the Motherboard. She keeps her CPU in a drawer in an upstairs room and the heat lately has been horrendous here in Cali. I can imagine it either overheated and even short circuited since she mentioned the kids she watches play with the plugs.

Anyway, I got the new MB in today and the previous cpu / ram are compatible, I triple checked. However, I am wondering now before I boot it up for a test if the CPU and or RAM is "bad" will it mess up this brand new MB?

I didn't replace the CPU / RAM because I am trying to keep costs low, for now. I couldn't actually test the CPU / RAM prior to this since the MB was dead. There are no visible signs of damage.

Mainly what I am looking to find out is this: is it safe to boot up the computer with the new MB and old cpu / ram, not knowing if the cpu / ram is bad -will it cause damage to the MB?

I don't think it would be a problem to install those parts in the new motherboard. If anything it won't post if one of those parts is bad. But I am pretty certain that it won't cause a problem to the new board.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to end up getting new parts (cpi, ram, psu). It's a computer that's only used for email and solitaire so I don't exactly need much. 🙂

its possible that a bad power supply can kill a good board though... so hopefully you've got a good power supply there.
