Replacing linux on new system

It appears that IBM has started providing an option to order a Thinkpad with Linux instead of Windows. Since I am able to obtain a free copy of Windows through a school-sponsored program, would it be a bad idea to save the $100 or so and simply format and install Windows after receiving the laptop? Thanks in advance.

That is a perfectly good idea. You shouldn't have any trouble installing Windows on a hard drive that used to have linux.

It can e a good idea provided that the Linux computer is Not less expensive because it has less memory and crappy graphics.

Check carefully the price and specs. Example, a 512MB RAM for Linux is not enough for smooth XP or Vista.
