Replacing laptop hard drive

I have replaced HDDs on desktops without a problem, but never on a laptop. I want to replace the drive on a Dell Latitude CPi D266XT with a (quietest?) Fujitsu ATA100 type drive, since the current drive is starting to sound like a wheat combine. Am I going to run into any compatibility issues? Is there any big difference between replacing the HDD on a laptop as compared to a desktop? Thanks for your indulgence. Camion

I have done this once before. It is not really too easy but once you figure out how to get to the hard drive, it isn't too bad. The laptop I did, you had to remove the keyboard and it was right there. One thing you need to look for is the actual physical dimensions of your existing hard drive. Laptop hard drives very in sizes, mainly the heights of the drive, good luck:)

changing a laptop HD is just like a desktop HD. One difference is they may add have it screwed into a bracket with connectors, etc.. just take off everything carefully and make sure you memorize it so you can put it back on :D
For your laptop, it's most likely a 2.5" laptop HD (the newest thin laptop uses 1.8" ones). There are 3 different heights if I'm not mistaken. 9.5mm, 12.5mm and something bigger.
For yours, most likely it'll be the 12.5mm one.. BUT you can use the 9.5mm one too.
check with your mfr's specs to make sure what kind of laptop HD you need.

good luck.
