Replacing HD in Sony VAIO PCG-FX370

Hello Folks,

I need to replace a HD in a Sony VAIO PCG-FX370. Does anyone have a service manual or diagrams that show how to open the notebook and install the hard disk? I tried Googling and I got some hits. Just wondering if there are any Sony Techs or folks who have access to Sony's technical documentation.

Thanks, Bill

Well, I don't have a manual... but let me take a shot...

Turn off the system, and then unplug anything that is connected to it.

Flip it over onto its top so the latch is facing you. On the right hand side, toward the front, there should be a panel, maybe 1-1.5cm tall, and about 6-7cm wide. Unscrew this panel and remove it carefully. Behind there should be the hard drive. If it is, then remove the hard drive. If the hard drive has lots of pins on the back (which I think it will) then it is an ATA-6 drive. If instead it has almost USB looking L-shaped connectors, then you have a SATA drive.

Hop on Newegg, and once you navigate to the hard drives section, go into the laptop hard drives, and search for a compatible drive.

The Sony F series is one of those "not easy" HDD access. It is necessary to remove the keyboard to get at it. This gives you a pretty good procedure:

F HDD

If there is a bottom access panel, that would be great - but since there is not mention of changing the HDD in the Sony FX-370 manual, one must assume that Sony does not consider it a user operation.

aw jeez! that is terrible, what they heck is that panel I directed you to then?

It looked (from the manual diagram) like an HDD cover... guess not.

Thanks to all. Corky's site shows a laptop that is pretty darn similar so I would think the procedure is the same.

Regards, Bill
