You may want to take the attitude some place else. This isn't Verizon customer support and is a forum based on people taking time out of their day to offer assistance. Be grateful that anyone decided to respond at all.

No, this thread has primarily been people taking time out of their day to not offer assistance, then tell me I should be grateful for them doing nothing.

His point is, WHAT are you looking for. Not simply "one that doesn't suck".

I wasn't asking for router recommendations. I was asking if it was possible at all. Again, the answer is "yes" or "no." The answer is not, "Why?"

I'm not expecting paid help. I'm expecting help, or nothing. NOTHING IS FINE! If no one replies to this thread, that's absolutely fine with me! If you don't want to help, or don't know the answer, don't respond. It's as simple as that. But don't respond with useless information and expect me to drown you in gratitude.

Your responses are likely the reason the few FIOS people that have done what you you are talking about are ignoring your posts. Again, check your attitude or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I had two very simple questions:
1. Can I connect a cable modem to the FiOS coax output? No, it requires MoCA, and cable modems are DOCSIS.
2. Can I change the output to Ethernet without a Verizon tech? Yes, you can connect it yourself and call them if the port is not active.

This questions were both answered. But so many posts were made that neither answered those questions nor added any helpful information. Why? And why did it suddenly get so inflammatory when I asked that you stay on topic and don't waste my time? I'm not forcing you to reply. I'm posting here because hopefully someone had this knowledge already and could share it with me faster than I could find it myself. That's how we as a society grow. We share our knowledge with others and allow them to build on it and move forward. And yet you get people here shaming me for asking a simple question, a question that people clearly had the answer to, posting links to giant FAQs without those answers, telling me I should go to a Verizon forum, etc. Why does this forum, a DISCUSSION forum, exist if you don't want to DISCUSS? Why are you here if getting you to share your knowledge is like pulling teeth? There are many things I know about a lot more than FiOS modems/routers, with varying levels of expertise, and I'm willing to share that knowledge with anyone who asks. Why aren't you?

A discussion doesn't involve an OP immediately coming back with hairbrained insults to the initial replies when his desired question were in no way formulated in the initial post to allow a reader without some form of ESP to have sufficient knowledge to come to the desired answer.

Then why are you continuing on with your attitude problem? Why does this forum, a DISCUSSION forum, exist if you don't want to DISCUSS? Exactly. You are not discussing. I am shaming your attitude, not your questions.

I have Verizon FiOS internet (not TV) and I'd like to replace the stock router with one that doesn't suck; however, I understand that things are a little different with fiber. I've read that fiber delivers a digital signal directly to the house, so a modem is not needed. But I used to have TV along with internet, so the installer used coax from the ONT (the white box thing) instead of ethernet. I've never seen a router that accepted coax as the WAN input (except, of course, for the stock Verizon router) so I'm curious as to how I'd replace it. I've seen people bridge the connection from the stock router to a new one, but that seems utterly pointless, and I'd still be renting a router from Verizon and ultimately relying on a device that isn't very reliable. And I've seen people suggest calling Verizon and having a tech come out and replace the coax with ethernet, and inconvenience that quite obviously isn't worth it. Is there another way? Could I connect to the coax to a modem like I would with cable internet?

Wha...what? In what world would you need to be a psychic to answer those two questions? They could not be phrased more simply. I'm not asking you to troubleshoot my router or my network. I'm asking two very basic questions so that I may take those steps myself.

Honestly, all I'm asking from you people is an apology and basic human decency going forward. That shouldn't be much, but apparently it is, because this is a forum where you can't ask simple questions without being harassed.

Since having a tech come over to switch the ONT to one with ethernet is in fact an option, I would do that. If you end up finding a way to convert coax feed to ethernet that's still another device that can potentially fail or be a problem. Keep in mind they will not support what you're trying to do, so when you tell them why make sure you tell them you still have the intention of using their router. But once everything works, then you can experiment with bypassing it.

From the sounds of a previous poster it sounds like all you really need to do is plug your own router into the ONT. Make sure you do an IP release on the ISP router first, and you may need to clone the mac address.

We are still waiting for yours. You have been callous this entire thread. It is impossible to apologize about harassment as at no point in this thread have you been harassed. No one has tried to intimidate or pressure you.

as someone with FIOS I see no reason to assist with anything. He has been nothing but rude and disrespectful to those simply trying to offer what help they could.

As long time FIOS user with experience with both the original Actiontec, the newer Actiontec, adding\replacing the actiontec with other options and what to do in general in this situation....

I'm posting here just say that.

Mods feel free to scold me for not being helpful.

At this point I do not see any Technical Info/Discussion that can be added.
