replacing clutch

Car noob here.

I have a 1986 Ford Festiva that is in need of a new clutch.

I've been looking online and can only find parts for 88-93.

Here's a site that has quite a few but not 86: http://www.carjunky.com/partst...=1616+10403&Ntt=clutch

Can anyone tell me if that's compatible with what I have? I'm a moron when it comes to cars. Just trying to figure out how much it's going to cost me.

If you need more info just yell at me and I'll let you know.

TIA

A quick google search says that the Festiva was not available in the US market until 1988, so that's why those sites only list it from 1988 through 1993. Not sure how you found an '86, but that's the first year of production and it was available only in Japan that year as far as I know.

That said, I am not aware of any reasons a part for a 1988 car would not fit (provided, of course, that you buy the right part for the transmission you have, there were 4-speed and 5-speed manual transmissions available), but I am no expert in Festivas and I can't guarantee that my advice will work.

Zenmervolt is usually spot on. I can't see any reason either that the '88 clutch wouldn't fit.

I would seriously evaluate the cost to fix that car. It can't be worth much more than $500 in good running condition.

Well, you may be right cardiac. It was given to me for free by a CRNA that I work with. I also have a 95 yukon lifted, etc. Gas kills me to fill that thing up. The festiva will go a week and a 1/2+ on $20.

There's nothing else wrong with it other than the clutch giving out. I'll spend roughly $50-$75 a week on gas for the yukon. That will add up in a few months time.

I love the car believe it or not. I've started letting everyone sign it(it's white) with a sharpie to give it a little character. If I could get it fixed for under $400 that would be worth it imo.

Have you tried ordering through Ford? It's possible that dealer parts might not be terribly expensive given the Festiva's position in Ford's model lineup.

Believe it or not, I have a soft spot for the little cars. A friend of mine in high school had one and it was a reliable and surprisingly fun little ah heck. Very light too. I remember going down country roads with long, straight, flat sections and making the car change lanes by opening one door or the other at 55 mph. Not the smartest thing I've ever done, but hey, we were 16. :p
