My computer has recently started to annoy me with its fans. One of them, i think maybe the cpu fan will speed up and slow down about 5 times a minute. Its driving me crazy because i sleep with the computer on in my room.

The case I'm using is an antec case that looks like this.

Im using 3 case fans in there. 2 antec ones that came with it and a glowing green one I have no idea where it came from...

In my machine i have an A64 on the DFI mobo. I also have 5 hard drives in there but it doesnt seems like they too hot or are all on the time I dont think. Just in case though is there anything I should be using to make sure they are off unless I try to access them?

ANYWAY.

I want to replace my 3 case fans with 2 case fans, and replace the stock amd cpu fan I have on there with the intention of QUIET. Im not an overclocker or anything.

If someone could just tell me the best brand and model for cpu fans and case fans I would appreciate it. I'm not too concerned with money I just want simple and quiet.

Thanks.

The first thing you need to do is visit Silent PC Review.

Quiet CPU fansink that works well with the A64: Zalman CNPS7000 set on low speed. The 7700 is really overkill, but if you can fit it, why not. Alternatively, you can try the Thermalright XP90 or 120, but you will have to hunt for a quiet fan to put on it.

Quiet case fans: Panaflos, Nexus, Papst, SilenX. Read up on what's a good quiet fan at Silent PC Review.

Quiet PSU: Your Antec PSU has two eggbeater 80mm fans which are not really quiet nor does it ventilate well (and heat buildup inside the case will cause any thermally-controlled fans to spin up and generate noise). You should get a 120mm-fan PSU-- Specifically the one recommended by Silent PC Review: The Seasonic Super Tornado or S12.

Northbridge fan: These usually spin at insane speeds (6000-8000rpms). You need to either slow it down with a fan controller or replace it with something else. SOme people had good luck with passive cooling like with the Zalman NB32J or 47J, but I prefer an active cooler with a slow fan.

Vid card cooler: No such thing as a quiet stock vid card fan. Get either a Zalman VF700 or Arctic Silencer (if one is available for your vid card) if your card is not passively cooled.

Hard disks and optical drives: These need to be vibration-dampened with rubber washers. Ditto the case fans.

HTH.
