I'm in the US.
It sounds like ZenPhone or MotoX Gen 3 is the way to go, right?

I keep forgetting the stupid ass names for the moto phones this year.
The moto play is the 5.5 inch screen that isn't sold in the USA
The moto style (moto X) is sold here.

I personally wouldn't buy a zenfone, god only knows how they will be with updates. At least with a moto x you know your gonna get the update when the nexus gets it

hardware is cheap enough I bet it will continue to receive after-market support because of all the buyers attracted to the hardware. that said, you right about questioning updates. However, I think if they are interested in the market, they are going to update, to inspire faith in future purchases. I'd place my money on updates. As long as it gets 5.1, I think it's a worthy purchase.

Yea, I'd rather stick with major producers, not niche.
If all else equal, I prefer MotoX > Zen

MotoX Gen 1 goes for $50
MotoX Gen 2 goes for $200

Where does LG G2 compare to both of these?
If G2 is also 2013, is the Gen1 MotoX comparable?
Or is Gen2 more like the G2 ?

The LG G2 is essentially the same specs as the MotoX Gen 2. So if you want something as fast as the G2, it should be pretty much identical, same basic SoC, same RAM, same display res, etc.

Alcatel Idol 3. I has an octocore processor and takes 128gb micro-SD card. So it's great if you like to keep a lot of movies or music on your phone. The one drawback is that it doesn't have a removeable battery and I don't think it's water resistant.

Seems like the G2 is still a major contender in the last gen phone market.
I can easily keep mine for another year, as even 2014 phones like MotoX g2 are similar.
For a 2015 phone, you're going to pay $400+ like the G4.
