Replacement Workhorse Laptop

I have an ASUS W90 laptop, bought in 2009.

It still runs great, but the dual core cpu and dual ATI videocards are becoming a little long in the tooth.

However, the 17" screen is beautiful and I haven't seen anything visually comparable.

I need a full size keyboard w/ dedicated numeric pad.

Yes, this thing is heavy, and not lap friendly (not if want to keep body from catching on fire), but I need performance and great visuals far more than I need portability.

While I can happily look up specifications for performance, my greatest concern is finding a high performance mobile machine that has a screen equal in size and quality to the one on the W90.

Recommendations? Apple products not acceptable.

If I were that happy with my laptop (well, I am, but Apple built it.) I would simply buy the updated version from ASUS.

Their g74 and g75 look like their high end gaming laptops. Although of you don't game much the nx90s may do the trick.

The dell m18 would also do the trick. Yes, fine, it's a Dell, but I've had nothing but reliable, ugly hardware and decent customer service from them for ten or so years, and wouldn't hesitate.

Have you looked into the Lenovo Thinkpad W series? My friend bought one for college, and he loves it. It has mobile Quadros, Ivy Bridge i7s, and a good screen.

There are many laptops now that come with the 3rd generation ivy bridge cpu with a pretty good video card with dedicated memory and superb screens that are not LCD but LED.

How much are you willing to spend on your new laptop?

Will you be moving this laptop around or will it just sit on your desk?
