Hi all, first time poster ():)

I've just bought a Samsung S22B350 monitor and have found it to have thin semi-transparent horizontal lines running the full length of the page. It has been suggested elsewhere that this could be an issue with the graphics card that settings won't fix, I've tried it with another source and while I can still faintly see them it's nothing like it is now which is pretty distracting to say the least.

I also want a new card as my experience rating shows the graphics card is a bit of a dead horse anyway;

Processor 6.9
Memory 7.3
Graphics 3.3 (!)
Gaming Graphics 5.7
Data Transfer 5.9

Pretty disapointing for a
128MB PCI-E card, so what budget card (by that I mean as cheap as possible) would you suggest with HDMI output that would hopefully cure both these issues and bring the graphics card roughly in line with the rest on the ratings?

Thanks in advance
:)

System Specifications:

I. Processor/CPU: Athlon 2 X3 440

II. Current Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5450

III. Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080

III. Do you plan to have any Multi-GPU solutions such as Crossfire or SLI? No

IV. Have you previously looked at a product(s) which you feel would fit your needs? No

V. What are your needs for this GPU? Which games(If any)do you intend to play? If you have this information at hand, what are the desired detail levels? Internet and office only, no gaming

For basic office use, there's nothing wrong with the 5450. It's not a fast card, but for internet and office work, that's a non-issue. If you really think the card is defective, see if you can return it under warranty (RMA).

I'm not clear on one thing - does your (new?) monitor show visible lines with multiple computers? If yes, you should be replacing the monitor, not the card.

If you really need a new card, something cheap but similar to the 5450 would work. Pretty much any used PCIe card will work. If you want new, look at the Geforce 210, or another 5450 or 6450.

purplestarfish,

Can you go into your System Information (located on the task bar/start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system information) then when that program loads, go into Components/display and copy/paste into this thread? (like the below) Like others have said 128 megs of RAM doesn't seem right. I'm curious if you are using onboard by accident rather than your video card you have.

5450 is fine for that

I use one in a bedroom HTPC at 1080p without issue. Its a XFX 512MB version with passive cooling. Just a FYI, they get real hot too, so make sure you have decent air flow if going passive.

@Phynaz and adam_the_giant
you guys missed this line in his post "Graphics 3.3 (!) would you suggest with HDMI output that would hopefully cure both these issues and bring the graphics card roughly in line with the rest on the ratings?"
He wants to improve his wei,so I had no choice :D

Thanks for the input guys, it's much appreciated.

I'm not overly concerned with the WEI but that rating does stick out, I'm away from the PC at the moment but when I get back I will check the memory. Thinking about it I'm sure you're right and it's 512MB - this is why I was a bit shocked at such a low rating when I first installed Windows 7, I'm thinking of keeping this build for a while so for the best "future proofing" I can afford I wanted the ratings to be similar rather than one component dragging the rest down if that makes sense.

The card is plenty quick enough and has been fine with a Sony monitor and showed no lines, it's just on the new monitor and the lines show on both VGA and HDMI.

With ref to the V-Sync being disabled, I've had a play with some settings but I still haven't been able to get rid of the lines, do you happen to know where that setting might be please?

Maybe it isn't the GPU but the monitor that has a problem since it also shows with other sources even if they are faint.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I thought it may be of use in the future.

I've managed to try this monitor with a Mac Mini and guess what? It have the same lines, so unless you like semi transparent lines across your display all the time stay away from the Samsung S22B350, it's merde...

Why aren't you getting the monitor replaced?

Laziness, it would involve taking it back to the store and it's now outside of the time allowed to do that. Samsung have said they could have an engineer come round, which is fine but it will inevitably involve taking a day off work and I can think of better things to do with a holiday, easier to sell it and get something else to be honest :)

HIS 6670 for around $85 at amazon.com will serve you very well.

Non-powered, but still well performing.

I'm not sure that selling a defective monitor is the best idea. Also, it doesn't sound very "honest." If its returnable, that's the best idea since you will get a new monitor. If not, work through the RMA process and you will get it repaired or get a refurb monitor. Either way, its better than trying to sell something that is broken - the buyer might be denied warranty coverage.

I don't think it's faulty, it's just crap! I managed to find similar reports online for this model;

http://forums.cnet.com/7723-13973_1...sa350-semi-transparent-grey-horizontal-lines/

Also as mentioned I'm not jumping through anyone's hoops, I have better things to do with my time.
