Replacement for Nexus 5

Dropped my N5(case w/ screen protector) last night on one of it's corners and it cracked the screen a bit in the corner and split the corner of the back of the phone. So, it's still totally usable but I will want to replace it.

I was thinking of waiting til they're available again on the Play Store but thought I'd ask for recommendations for a replacement. I know of the OPO but I think it would be too large and like the size and slimness of the N5. I don't know if I'm interested in spending over $600.

If you were already liking the N5, the OPO isn't much bigger: ~1/2" taller and 1/4" wider, same thickness. Won't do much better for the money.

I even have an invite that expires by the end of today, if you want it.

I didn't want to go bigger due to having a couple of Timbuk2 phone pouches that fit my N5 perfectly that I use a lot when traveling around. But it appears the OPO may fit into one of them.

How is the camera? I've heard it's kind of sluggish.

I like the camera, but that's compared to the N4. It really only feels sluggish on smart scene mode with extra processing, but I've only played with it so much at this point.

Replacing the screen is simple, it would cost you less than $100 and take you about 30 minutes, if that. If you like the Nexus 5, why get something else? I think your phone is still very compressive! Not sure about the price and time required for the back, I've seen those parts for sale too but never needed to replace one.

Thanks for the idea. I completely didn't even think about this even though I have already opened my N5 up and replaced the usb port on it. I'm a little afraid now to open it up in case the screen breaks even more and becomes unusable without a proper replacement.

I'm thinking these are the two parts that I need?

1. Front glass screen - http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/321368739110?lpid=82&chn=ps

or do I need this - http://smile.amazon.com/Screen-Disp...LO/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1420170766&sr=8-15

2. Back cover - http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Back-Co...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3a8d98d380

I've had very good luck with a place called Repair Universe, their screens felt like the original.

Don't look at where the seller on eBay is from... all of the parts are ordered in bulk from China and re-sold on eBay claiming "USA seller."

Sure but I don't have to wait a month as many of the from China sellers are posting end of Jan delivery times and can get the parts in 3-5 business days.

Moto X 2014

but replacing screen is better idea

careful with the replacement, I've had an $50 replacement screen that was non-OEM, sucked

I ordered a screen from Fixez.com ... to replace the screen I watched a Youtube video at the same time.. and just stopped the video while I did the same thing on my Nexus. It took some time but was actually pretty simple.

Unfortunately.. I just dropped my Nexus again! This time my screen goes blank when I make a call so I will probably replace the phone with a different one.

I think they can send the replacement phone and the packing materials for the bad phone. So you get the replacement before sending back the bad one.

That's just a problem with the proximity sensor, most likely there is a gap between the sensor and the glass or something is in-front of the sensor.

dude, seriously, get a case

I've dropped it 5 times without a case and no breakage

about 3 with a simple TPU case, it's doing great

fyi - replaced the screen, back cover and battery. Pretty simple and it looks brand new. Just need to put the screen protector on which will be a pain in the ass and then it'll be good to go.

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

I went from N5-> oneplus. Upgrade in all area except 1, Low light camera performance due to lack of OIS. Everything from the screen colors, speaker loudness, Daytime photo's, double battery life are pro's that have you very happy after the upgrade.

If you bought your Nexus 5 direct from Google Play contact them. You may be surprised as they have been replacing them one time for pretty much any reason.

I had mine replaced recently due to it not rebooting.

Others have had theirs replaced for cracked screens, water damage, etc. But the key is that you needed to have purchased it direct from Google and be in the US.
