In my last couple of computer builds I have been using Digital Doc 5+'s eight temperature sensors (and fan sensors) to keep track of hot parts of my systems. (I have never used it fan control feature.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement for Digital Doc 5+? (It is old, and only shows you the temperature. It doesn't have any reporting features back to the computer system it is in. I really like its eight sensors though.)

Keep your DD5plus. Nothing has been built that is any better....or even as good. Why.....you ask? This device uses no extra software. It is a completely self-contained unit. It can measure eight different temperatures.....scrolling through them all continuously. It can turn eight different fans on/off at temperatures you can set. It can warn you by sound or flashing lites if a temperature has been exceeded. It can display fan rpms, just like the temps. It comes with eight sensor wires, and eight fan extension wires. There is a long list of other specs available.

About the only thing it cannot do....change fan speeds. Put a Fanmate in-line with the fan you are using, and that problem is solved. You have the best temperature monitor around. Why change?

So far, I can't come up with a good reason to change. I have never used DigitalDoc 5+ as a fan controller, just a monitoring tool. I don't want to change to the other mentioned systems because they don't have eight temperature sensors.

Tell you what I do with mine......I put it in the top bay, and then use all the space behind the unit to stuff all the unused PSU wires. If you don't like the color of the bezel, the whole thing comes apart easily for painting. I painted four so far. Get the DD5 plus version if you have a choice.....it's fan on/off control works better, keeping the fan from cycling too often. Also with the plus version, you get an on/off switch for the alarm beeper, plus all the sensor and fan wires are color-coded.
