Replacement cable for iSight

-I have an iSight, which has a 6-pin double-male Firewire 400 cable.
-I bought a MacMini, which only has a Firewire 800 port.
-I bought a double mail 6-pin Firewire 400 to 800 cable.
-The cable works, but it cannot fit in the stand for the iSight. :Q

So, I went to Fry's and bought a Firewire gender Changer (double female 6-pin), but the computer does not recognize the iSight when I put the gender changer in between the two cables.

I just ordered a Sonnet FireWire 400 to 800 Adapter that I hope will work.

Questions:

1. Why won't the gender changer work?
2. Does anyone make a 6-pin Firewire 400 to 800 cable that fits the iSight stands?

Have you tested any other firewire devices with that gender changer? It is possible that IT is faulty.

I thought about that, but, unfortunately, I do not have anything else Firewire.

I was wondering if it was a known issue. I guess we will never know?
