Replace the thermal paste on my BFG 8800 GT

I want to remove the heatsink and replace the goop with a better applied thermal paste, but it looks like the reference heatsink is runied after you remove it...

... specifically the ram heatsinks get ruined.

If I remove the BFG heatsink, can I reapply the same heatsink with no problems?

You'll need to buy a new set of thermal tape for the memory but the cooler will be fine as long as you clean the old thermal tape off.

Friendly advice, don't bother. It's not worth it if you're just putting the stock cooler back on.

The stock GPU paste is quite good. The ram and PWM thermal interface is a paraffin based goop laced with fine fibers. A replacement needs to be thick enough to bridge the gap. Simple thermal pads found in stores won't do.

Agreed, SteelSix. It's only worth it unless you're putting an aftermarket cooler on.
