I am building a desktop PC but I have challenges with the availability of processors. My mother board Mercury PVM890M support list recommends Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66G (4M, 1066, Socket 775)which I can't find. Can I replace this with Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93G (3M,1066,Socket 775) which is available?

supporting the e6700 doesn't really mean that it supports the e7500,
the e7500 is newer and quite different, it requires a compatible bios/chipset, which might not exist for this motherboard,

If it's not listed on your motherboard's support list, it's risky. If you have the processor already lying around then try it, sure, but I wouldn't spend money on it. I'd keep an eye on eBay until the right processor appears, if I were you :)

or better yet just spend $25 and get a board that will accomodate the chip you want. or even better just build a more current machine that will be much faster

I didnt even know motherboards had upport lists. If its an LGA 775 CPu on a 45nm die it will work guarenteed.

Thank you, Oblama2009.

Can you suggest the specs of a mid-range current machine?
