Can anyone suggest a new board that can utilize my existing cpu and ram. I also need it to have firewire.

The current PC build is as follows with NewEgg part numbers on the left:

what would you suggest if I were to buy a new MB and a new processor? Something that doesn't have a dead socket.

Honestly for your purpose, I like the Asus P8Z68-v Pro in the ebay link. Quick & easy, under $100..

will my 2600k be able to be overclocked in that board if I wanted to do that. I thought it had to be p67 for that. Im not a specialist on chipsets to be honest.

Yes, but everything is covered by ebay if it's a dud. In your shoes, I'd take the gamble. I've had excellent luck on ebay, except when it comes to returns. As a seller I had to honor a return on a mobo I sold. Guy had spilled something on it, but claimed was already there. I had to take it back & refund.. There's not protection for sellers, like there is for buyers.

If you want new, buy the intel.. Giving up a few features but gets you back up & running. Long as you can do that for <$100, do it. Either way you'll have a few good years left in your rig, upgrade later.

Might as well get something with Z77/H77 while you're at it. Or even sell the 2600K for whatever it can get on Ebay, replace both the CPU and MB with newer LGA 1150.

OK so the way I see it I have 3 options:

1)the P8Z68V Pro
2)INTEL DP67BGb3 / BLKDP67BGB3 P67
3)new board with a new processor

Can you explain why you prefer the P8Z68 over the Intel DP67. I'm not questioning i just don't know the difference?

I prefer Asus for features & overclock ability.. Personal preference

It is listed as "used" instead of not working for parts only. Even then you can get your money back.

2nd that MB for a cheap solution. Not that I haven't been running one for that last 3 years but very responsive and Oc's like hell for an i7 2600k or i7 2700k.

Other then for minor issues over AS Media Controllers my Sandy Bridge has been running at 4.8Ghz without a hic-up for the last 3 years.

Of course you could find a 77Z which supports Ivy Bridge for about the same price.

Gotta say I`m very pleased with my ASUS P8Z68-V Pro.

Other then USB 3 support and ICH 9 Vs ICH 10, can't but wonder why you think your P67M isn't giving the performance you expect with a Sandy Bridge processor.
