Hello all,

I would like to replace my sort of agin ATI X800 XT P.E. with a newer card. I was wondering what would be the best AGP card out and would be better than my existing card? Perhaps the x1950 XT that I have seen recently in the forums? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Well i don't know if the X1950XT AGP is true but i do know that X1950pro is the fastest AGP card that beats the crap out of 7800GS which is the 2nd fastest AGP card. IF X1950XT AGP from jet is true then it beats up the X1950pro AGP.

the current fastest AGP card is the x1950p

there is evidently a x1950xt coming ...

and forget NWN2 --it is still buggy as hell

Oblivion looks *awesome* on my Sapphire x1950p/512MB --compared with my old x850xt

The X1950XT is reported to be coming, but atm no-one knows if its even actually true or when it will appear.
There's also unsubstantiated reports of Nvidia releasing G8600 parts which would be DX10 capable, but again, who knows.

If you want to buy now, then the current best AGP you can buy is the X1950 Pro 512mb.

I was in a similar position as you, socket 939 X2 chip, 2 gigs of DDR ram. I picked up an open box socket 939 PCIe board on newegg for $29, and an X1950xt and have no regrets other than missing out on a $30 MIR. Roughly twice as fast as the X800xtpe, if not faster.

Was in a similiar situation as you. Finally bit the bullet and said goodbye to AGP. Cost a little bit more for a new motherboard along with the card, but I feel it was worth it. Of course, this did mean that I had to stick with 939 and DDR as I was not ready to upgrade my CPU and memory yet.

go for the X1950 Pro if you are going to purchase in the near future...I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the X1950XT...it's still an unconfirmed rumor.

Hello,

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to reply to my question. My next full upgrade isn't until mid to late summer, so I just wanted to update the video card at this time. I would get a new MOBO, but I don't want to re-install everything which takes days and weeks to get it fully up and running as we all know. The only concern I have with upgrading the video card is the CPU might become the bottle neck, but so long as it isn't too bad it will be okay.

I will get the X1950 Pro as recommend though I will need to take a look at my PSU to make sure it will handle the power requirements.

If it's one of those rare quad-core AGP systems, then it might run faster on an 1950XT; otherwise it will run at the same speed as it would with anything better than a 9800pro.

Has to do with that whole "bottleneck" thing. It's all too complicated for laymen to understand. Don't even try to figure it out; just send in all your system specs (preferably including component serial numbers) and let the guru work his magic on them.

I haven't reinstalled my OS (winxp) for 3 years, and that covered 3 different motherboards. Usually when going from similar chipset to similar chipset you shouldn't have many (if any) issues. That's how I do, but then again I know how to troubleshoot the OS and can usually fix any of the common problems if they happen.
