I have a dragon orb 3 cooling my athlon 1.2 (on an ecs k7s5a) ... 49C at full load 41C at idle. The fan is so damn loud (I actually keep it INSIDE my desk hutch with the door closed to dull the noise - the temps drop about 2C by just opening the door to the hutch). Can i have some suggestions on how to replace/quite it for as cheap as possible (maybe just replace the fan with a slower 80mm fan? any place i could buy one?) Any and all help appreciated

I have the same HSF and in my opinion the fan is not that noisy... 37dba was it?, maybe you've never heard a Delta or any high speed massive CFM one...

I replaced mine with a 45CFM 40dba 80mm 4500RPMfan and temps lowered 3C from the original fan. I had to cut down the upper part of the Heatsink (the golden part) to install the 80mm fan. If you get one of those panaflos or a pabst you should be happy, 80mm surely is the solution for you.

replace the fan or hs?

If you want a new quieter hs, try a svc-gc68 at 28 db with 30 cfm

Or try the dr. thermal from svc

Both should be quieter and more effective than a dorb3
