Question Replace 8 year old power supply?

I have an 8 year old EVGA 750W power supply that powers the main computer in the home. As a general rule should you replace older units to avoid problems or let them expire on their own?

My rule of thumb with PSUs is to let them get to the end of the warranty period and then pick up a new one.

No issue putting a PSU passed warranty into a spare machine or whatever that you won't miss if the PSU goes and takes your computer with it, but if you have a primary machine and especially if that primary machine is a source of income, keep that PSU in warranty.

Most Quality PSUs will give you something like 8/10/12 year warranties, which is a very reasonable amount of time to plunk down another $150-200 or whatever.

Is the PC also 8 years old? You could go either way on this. As one cliche goes, "if it ain't broke..."

If the PC is also 8 years old and has operated reliably, I'd just keep using it as is.

I have a Corsair HX620 that I installed new in 2007. It was my "daily driver" until 2019 when I bought a pre-built PC. I would have zero concern putting it back in a rig and using it.
