Repairing windows

I recently switched motherboards and backup up most of my data. Problem is I still have a few important files so I would really just like to be able to load windows after I made the switch.
I went into the recovery console and did a chkdsk but windows does not seem to want to fix anything.
What do I do now repair windows?
I wont just boot because after I get the windows loading I get a quick bluescreen followed by a reboot.

This is one of the big land mines in swapping the motherboard and trying to boot the original installs of an operating system. The hardware has changed and the OS is attempting to communicate with the original hardware that is no longer present. Can you boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during the boot and select safe mode? If so try and delete all the devices, then reboot and have the system redetect. If not do a repair install.

How would I repair windows? I did a chkdesk in repair console and it said the files where fine.

boot from the windowsxp cd and choose a repair installation.

OR
if u can boot into safe mode go into control panel and change your ide controller to standard ide and remove any motherboard specific drivers- usb, agp, ide. but changing the ide driver should do it for u
