Repairing a windshield???

All,

I got two little nicks in my windshield from rocks being thrown by passing cars.

I have heard they are repairable before they start to crack your whole windshield.

Can anyone confirm this and tell me what this process is called so I can find someone local to me to do the repairs.

Thanks.

There is a windshield repiar product made by permatext and a couple others. It's essentially a plunger you put this sealant product inside and withdraw the plunger pulling air out from the nick then release it forcing chemical inside. It's supposed to seal it further so that it dosen't crack more.

If you have insurance your probably better off having it repaired professional though. Most insurances will cover this and the repair will look perfect (free).

They use special equipment and can drive onsite to your office for example and repair the car while you work.

I had one, about the size of a penny fixed for free by my auto insurance - All State. If yours covers it, definitely get it done. Like steppinthrax said, they can come to your house or work and have it done in about 10 minutes each.
In the meantime, don't use a reflective windshield shade thing - that can spread the crack (at least from what I understand).

I had them do that to my windshield with full coverage...they just put in a new windshield instead of 'repairing' it.

I know nothing about chip repair. But I'd either repair it or live with it, IIWY.
Since others have mentioned replacement, I'll throw in my 2¢.
A windshield replacement costs $314. You can get it replaced free if you have comprehensive insurance. There will no doubt be a deductible, but the glass shop may not charge you for it. I doubt the insurance company would agree to replace a lightly chipped windshield. I had to describe the crack in the glass when I initiated a claim.
