Renting a game server...

I know I can't be the first to ask this.. But are there any companies out there that rent game servers out? I dont mean for LAN parties.

I don't think I get what you're trying to say...if you don't mean for LAN parties as a dedicated server, what do you mean by renting game servers? You mean use it to host an dedicated internet game? Why would you want to do that? And why would you have to PAY to do that? There are free public servers all around.

Yea I know that wasnt to clear. I couldnt figure out to word it..

I have a Tribes clan, we need a dedicated server for matches and just day in day out matches. I was wondering if people rent out servers for online gaming clans?

Wouldn't it be worth it to have everyone chip in and create a server? Shouldn't cost that much and it would pay for itself over time.

I get what he's saying...

He wants a dedicated machine on a dedicated fast connection to host his game! He wants to hook it up to the internet so everyone can.

I've heard of places like this, but in the long run It's cheaper to buy your own machine and pay for the connection yourself.

Silencer gets the prize 🙂. that is what I want. I know that it would be cheaper to build one myself, But I dont have access to OC3 lines and stuff(which is more expensinve then the comp). No ideas from anyone? Hmm wonder if that could be the next online hit hehe..

If you want an ultra-fast always on connection you'll need to build and co-locate a server. This means you'll put your server on your ISPs network so it has ethernet connection to the net. You will usually pay for rack space based on the number of rack units your machine takes up. That price often includes X number of GB of traffic per month, and over that you'll usually pay by the GB.

Oh, so that's what you meant. You didn't mention it was for a clan, so I thought only you were gonna use it, and that'd be pretty insane 🙂
