Renting a car, under 25.

edro

Lifer
I am going to be renting a car for a week on vacation.

Hertz is our only option because of the pickup and drop off locations.
I am happy with Hertz, except that they charge $40 a DAY if you are under 25.

When I rent the car, I will be 2 weeks shy of 25.

A $280 surcharge because of 2 weeks sucks.

Do you think they will let me slide?

They are in the business to make money, so I doubt they will...

🙁

Insurance rule, so it is in black and white. If you work for the government they bypass it though 🙂 although you do have to claim that you are using it for business purposes.

Dunno if they can waive that extra charge or not.

I can tell you that when I was 23 or 24, my car was in the body shop for almost a month getting new panels, windshield, paint job, and dent removal (softball sized hail does a lot of damage.)
I paid normal rental rates .... This was through Enterprise, and my insurance was covering the rental, so that may also have played into it.

It really sucks how much of a price difference that 2 weeks makes 🙁

nah enterprise just doesn't give a sht. I've rented several times when I was 22-23 and they never charged me anything extra.

Agreed. I rented from Enterprise when I was under 25 and never had any hassles.

I rented from Enterprise as well - it was covered by the other insurance company, though..they got a wicked break on the cost, too.

i'd look on "obese money carrying device" or similar sites for some customer codes. some (used to at least) give you good rates regardless of age.

I've had it waived before - the manager was very nice.

Edit: That was Hertz, and I was within two weeks of turning 25 - the topic of age never came up. The previous month Enterprise had raped me for all they could.

Try showing up in a dress shirt and dress pants and looking professional. If there's any chance of it being subjective, you want every advantage you can get.

Good point. I may do that. If all else fails, I will whine like a girl and ask if they can waive it.

Looks like there's an under 25 drivers fee. Just checking quickly, it was $45 for a 2 day rental, and $75 for a 4 day rental.

I dont think so. I rented from them all the time when I was <25 and they quoted the same price.

well... I don't know. That's just what the website showed. That extra fee also increases all the other taxes and fees.

Hmm, they may have changed... This is bad...

I rented an Infiniti M35 from Hertz a month or two ago to drive out to San Diego and didn't get anyextra fees/costs due to age. Of course, they may think twice about that next time since CHP nailed me doing 90 in a 70 zone heading back on I10 outside of El Centro =(

Age 24 here.

Not hauling people from south of the border, eh?...

I mean American border.

Do they receive that info?

Not sure if they do or not. "Hertz" was listed on the ticket as the vehicle owner. I neverheard anything after that aside from just paying for the ticket. Even my insurance company seems to still be in the dark on it.
