That has to be one of the worst movie endings I can imagine. Most of the movie was spent as sort of a suspenseful flick, then the end blows you away. Talk about anti-climactic. :|

Normally I don't discuss movies, since there's so many and everyone has different tastes. But this one left me utterly confused. Did anybody else think it was a great movie spoiled by a bizarre ending?

EDIT: As with all movie discussions, don't read this thread if you want a surprise.

the trailer made the movie appear as a suspense/thriller, but with the ending you see what the movie is really about or from another point of view. it's difficult to discuss without spoiling anything.

i thought it was a pretty decent movie.

I wrote a thread on this a couple months back. I had the exact same feelings! I was in suspense and I thought it was a decent movie until the end and I felt thouroughly pissed off. I felt that the movie ripped me out of 2 hours of my life and I cannot recommend highly enough for everybody to avoid wasting time on this piece of crap movie. The last 5 minutes have never ruined a movie as much as this one.

really wanted a payoff between the killer and Jacko, it didn't happen, but I liked the ending quite a bit. Jack was right all along, but noone knows it, and he eventually goes crazy. Great flick, great ending.

I thought the ending was very depressing. Jack got screwed at the end. That was some messed up stuff. I agree with what most of you guys said before me. Very sad film...

That movie sucked. The movie was slow to begin with, then at the end it looks like they are building towards some type of climax, and then they just throw that crap at you. I felt like I wasted 2 hours watching that flick.

That's what I thought at first too. They obviously wanted to break out of the mold with this movie, which they accomplished admirably. But I can't help but feel slightly empty after watching it. Throughout the movie, they kept alluding to the fact that Jack was going a bit loco. But they built it up so much, with several suspects, the stakeout, the anticipated shock of finding out who it was. Then nothing.

His old copy buddies think he's lost it. His woman hates him. He closes his business and becomes a drunk. The killer died, but that doesn't mean justice was served. It was just very strange.

i don't want you to get the wrong idea now. i wasn't trying to say i was looking for some "trick" or "surprise" ending. in fact, i'm quite tired of those types of endings that try to pull something on the audience to impress them. i was trying to say was that it didn't conform to most movies that hollywood produces these days where the hero wins. instead it was telling a story of a man who was very successful at his job, had a satisfying life and then failed at the end. it's realistic.

Why do I wanna say-----me too. Because, I felt like ending took a well made slow paced movie and completely destroyed any chance to save it.

I absolutely loved the music and imagery throughout the film.

I should have realized that something was not right, then the ending. Left me with a pit in my stomach. Yet I think that brings out the humanness that we all feel and can relate to.\

Good film, yet I wouldn't want to see it again.

I just watched this movie. What a crap ending. The film was extremely slow and all I wanted was for Nicholson’s character to be vindicated and coming out smelling of roses, rubbing that other detectives nose in it, plus his old boss, but no. So so so disappointed ☹️

This thread led me to look up this movie. From the title I thought it was about a college student joining a Greek, or maybe something about a "purity pledge". Nope. It's a crime drama.

Necro aside:

I actually thought it was OK.
Way too many American viewers think that all movies require a "happy" ending and frankly thats not only completely unrealistic, but kind of annoying and boring.

In fact I think Pulp Fiction was way too happy. They should have ended the film as soon as Butch walks out of the apartment door.

You're missing the point...

It's real, sometimes you don't get the answers you want and the cops are the real predators (baiting traps and banging women 35 years younger)

I agree! the ending stunk! I know Jack's roll, was a little unbalanced, (Mind Wise) But the way he just all of a sudden lost it at the end? I didn't buy it? Where he messed up from the beginning was he should have told his lady friend about the killer, and that he believed that he was coming after her daughter next, and then told her that the killer/wizard told her daughter he wanted her to meet him tomorrow. He should have had enough respect for his lady friend to do so! Things would have turned out a whole lot different if he had! An believe me, if I had been the one to write the script, it would have! The killer would have made it to the destination, no log truck running him over! As someone else said earlier, Jack would have come out with a big smile and the cops, poor excuses for cops at that! would have had egg all over their faces, from Jack's I told You so! Lastly! they had the dumbest sheriff deputies? Firstly the crime scene, walking all over the evidence! Then there was the idiot who was going to place the Indian in a jail cell, and was dumb enough to have a weapon on him at the time of doing so? That would never happen! Another flaw in our dear film writers thinking! Just my thoughts! If I had a say in the story, Jack and his new found family, would have lived happily ever after, and together! LOL!
