Rental Car in Germany

I have a business trip that just got arranged in a few weeks time and I was thinking it would be a fun experience to rent a car and take the Autobahn. I will be in Lorrach (landing in Basel, Switzerland), but was thinking that flying to Frankfurt and driving down would be ok.

The big thing is that most flights to Basel stop in Frankfurt for an extended layover (4-5 hours) as well as being a few hundred dollars more expensive.

My idea was to get something a little exotic and have some fun on my drive. A good portion of the Autobahn on the route is free of speed limits. 😀

Ja ja just remember if someone in your rear view mirror is flashing thier lights at you... you better move over fast.

Have fun if you do it.

They do have flights via Paris, but Lufthansa is significantly cheaper and they all connect in Frankfurt.

when you see a grey Audi with flashing headlights, that's me urging you to get out of my way 😀

So what's your question? Its kind of like a request for info or advice but you didn't really ask us anything. Help us so we can help you. Unless you aren't looking for help or advice at all. I'm confused here...

Bah, I'll be in a red RS4. Muahahahaha

I wonder if the company will spring for it. It's only $2300 for the week...

Ahh... You noticed my subtle lack a question mark. Gold tar for you! 😛

This was more of a blog.anandtech.com. If anyone had any tips or ideas I would accept them.

I rented a car when I was in Germany. I didn't have the cash for an exotic but I managed to get myself into a BMW 320i. Great way to travel around the country! However make sure you get GPS, trying to navigate otherwise would be hell! Was tons of fun and I can't wait for the opportunity to do it again! German backroads can be pretty damn fun too! I went to the Nürburgring so I took the back-roads there and then the Autobahn back. With very few cars out on the B roads it was very relaxing, and theres nothing like drifting some of the sharper corners 😛 Autobahn was kind of fun, but my parts of it had speed limits although 130km/h was fine for me at the time!

LOL.......there's lots of traffic and construction on those roads my friend.

You won't have much of an opportunity to test your theory unless it's early morning/late night weekend........and non-winter (slick roads).

Sixt is the best brand to use to get a BMW. Their prices are fairly reasonable...although you obviously will be spending a lot more as you go up the car level.
