I just popped by rentacoder.com as I'm a bit strapped for cash these days and any extra income is better than no income.

Question: What the hell does writing a 50 page report on how to pick the perfect baby name have to do with programming?

The site is littered with this $hit. I haven't stopped by there in about a year, but surely... when did they let this crap happen?

Anybody know of any other legit sites that actually have programming work for hire?

I came to the same conclusion you did. Seems like its a buncha kiddies paying guys in india to do their homework. So i gave up hiring and went and got a real job and wanted to hire someone to write a script. It went like this...posted my "job"...got 5 responces from guys in india that would undercut everybody but only if they could do it in their language (not the prog language i needed) then the next 2 days i got offers from 2 german, 2 french, and 1 american. All of them offering me services that were in a different language or provided half assed solutions. Thus i gave up on rentacoder

there used ot be other sites but they seem to have all gone the way of rentacoder with the bidding being really crappy cause you have 500 guys in india/china/etc willing to work for $50 for a $500 job.

but I'll edit and add that I have posted and looked on craigslist offering services as a programmer. Just list your lanaguages and your area of expertise and someone will find ya. ITs worked out fairly well neting me jobs from local companies like real estate agents looking to update web pages or small companies looking for a simple tracking app.
