WindowsXP allows you to rename a group of file automatically but I wondered if there was a way of changing the way it renames files. The reason is that if I rename a group of five photos is calls them picture, picture (1), picture (2), etc, etc. I really want it to call them picture 1, picture 2, picture 3, etc (ie: without the () and starting at 1 (surely that would be better ????)

I assume that this would mean hacking the registry but I am quite happy to give it a go if it will resolve my problem.

Anyone have an idea? I've done a search on the Internet, but to no avail.

Are you talking about the image resizer? I don't think you can change how the Windows XP image resizer names the files, but you can get another program. I use a program called Easy Thumbnails. It'll let you rename the file however you want.

No, I'm not talking about the Image Resizer (a very useful XP PowerToy). I'm on about the batch renaming of files that comes built into XP. I find it very useful for renaming digital pictures, but wanted to "tweak" it a little.

I don't want to install any third party software onto my computer - the problem is not that annoying.
