Rename Ravens Stadium to John Unitas Memorial Stadium

Because he was Baltimore through and through, like Art Donovan et al.
John Unitas never played for Indianapolis, he played in Baltimore.
That's loyalty folks, and he is a Baltimore icon. He meant so much to the community.
No better honor.

Yeah but Johnny U was a Colt, not a suck ass Raven.

exactly.

and he did play for the chargers, though i don't know if they were in SD at the time.

Johnny Unitas is on record as saying that as far as he is concerned the Colts could unretire #19 because he never played for the Indianoplace Colts. The way the Irsays treated both Johnny Unitas and the Baltimore Colts fans is a disgrace.

I really don't know, I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. The City of Baltimore definitely needs to do something to honor the man, if it is naming the football stadium after him then that is good I guess. I just still recall exactly where and what I was doing when the news of the Colts slipping out under the cover of dawn in Mayflower moving vans came out and the pictures of the vans leaving the Owings Mills facilities. I still have some very hard feelings about the whole thing.

Perhaps all of the ravens and colts players could get buzz cuts this week. 🙂

I'd love to see Edgerin James get his dreads cut.

no way, thats not his team playing there

yeah-- why Ravens stadium?

becuase you can't name the one in indianapolis for him because he didn't play there.

He didn't play for the Ravens either.
which is why i'm against them naming the stadium his team never played in after him. sheesh, don't people read posts anymore?

They already have, it's due to be unvailed in October.

Maybe they can name the new Colts stadium in Los Angeles after him when the team moves again.

Things make no sense in the NFL. They moved the Colts but left the name, but when the Browns moved they renamed them the Ravens and Cleveland got a new Browns. say what?

He played for the Colts franchise, not the Ravens/BrownsI franchise.

Johnny U was at the Ravens games every week. He loved the fact that footbal was back in Baltimore. Johnny was a class guy and a class act. Something needs to be done to remember him.

I'm all for naming it after Johnny U. In fact, anything's better than Piss-in-it Stadium. (any other baltimoreans taken to calling it that? 😉)
