I just bought a house which has very ugly wall decoration in the bathroom.

They have plastic wall tiles (marbled lilac) up to a waist rail. We want to remove them and just paint the walls.

I tried popping a few off quickly and the adhesive looks like its going to be tough to remove.

Does anyone have any tips?

Oh, its plaster on lath walls

Is it hard brown-ish Construction adhesive?? I hate it when they use that stuff. It's hard to remove cleanly.
I see scrapers and chisels in your future, followed by a light re-plastering coat......
Good Luck,
BTW, beer is not a solvent.... :D

heh had this EXACT same thing in my house... I scrapped and chiseled at that sh!t as much as I could take. Bloody knuckles and all. And the fumes... ugh. I was high as a kite. Stuff was 40yrs old and still potent. I can only imagine the guy when he put it up.

Regardless, there was no conceivable way to get it to bear plaster/drywall. I could get it fairly clean, but not paintable or wallpaper-able. So I took the next route. I decided to overlay it with wainscoting. And it looks AWESOME if I do say so myself.

Only other route is to tear out the palster/drywall 100% and start over.
