Removing Thermal Pad

What do you use to completely remove a thermal pad or thermal stuffs from the bottom of a heatsink?

Ive never done it but a guess is rubbing alcohol and a soft cotton cloth?

Scrape what you can off with your fingernail, and then use one of the following to clean the residue.

[*]Brake Cleaner
[*]Goof Off
[*]Lighter fluid

does the stock P4 retail cooler have a thermal pad on it already? the place down the street has goof-off and i might get that

Yes - the Retail Intel P4's that come with a cooler have a pad on the heatsink. Removing was no troublie at all - I used a single edged razor blade in a holder - like you use to scrape of decals on car windows. Then afterwards I cleaned the residue off with lighter fluid and alchohol. Then I applied my own thermal paste.
