Okay, am I just a moron, or am I missing a step. I've lifted the locking bar, but still can't get my 939 3200+ off the mobo. It's like it's fused to it. Is it?

cycle the bar up and down a couple times, then GENTLY...did I mention to GENTLY try to rotate in a clockwise then counterclockwise direction while in the socket. You will get AS on your paws but dishsoap and hot water work wonders. That should free it up, but keep in mind the pins bend VERY easy and the proper amount of care should be taken. You most likely are not going to bend ALL the pins while it is in the socket, that is why I would try it that way. Had a 754 do that to me once. I am actually suprised it didn't come out when you took the HSF off. Must have been using the stock heatsink with no AS?

Exactly. In fact I have my Zalman and AS5 right next to me. That was the point of this to get the stock cooler off, and the CPU out to be properly cleaned before dropping the AS5 and Zalman on it. Tried what you suggested, no dice. I can lift the who mobo up by the processor and the locking bar is straight up!

Nope. It's on a DFI SLI-D if that matters at all. I'm holding onto it with a coffee filter and tugging, turning the board upside down and shaking it a bit, trying to turn the CPU a little, and it is holding tight. Is there ANY change the pins have somehow melted to the socket? The CPU has been running fine, but this has me REALLY confused.

Is it really that undesirable to clean the CPU while it's in the board? Unscrew and remove the HS retention bracket if you want more space around the chip to do it. If you really must have the chip out it sounds like you'll have to pry it. Do this very gently with a small jeweler's flat blade screwdriver or the corner of a razor blade placed under the corner(s) of the CPU.

Pliers > j00.

Seriously, get a chip extractor* and pull carefully.

* One of the type that removes BIOS chips.
