My dad bought Hero in china but it has a region lock on it, so we can't watch it on our DVD player. We don't want to get our player moded to region free.

So i've checked and it is a DVD5 movie, is there any way to copy it and remove the region restrictions? I've heard u can extract the movie to your HD and then burn it to get rid of region settings. I have a DVD-R/RW drive.

I am not trying to pirate a DVD, we own a legal copy of it and would like to watch it on our home theather instead of on computer.

We want to watch it on TV, there isn't a region hack for our standalone DVD player, it requiers either a chip or a firmware flash.

I beleive Pinnacle InstantCopy removes the region encoding on all DVDs you copy with it. Correct me if I'm wrong somebody.

Check out doom9.org. What you want is DVDDecryptor or a similar DVD-ripping program. That will remove region-coding as well as macrovision, etc. Then if it's DVD5 you can just burn the files back onto a DVD-r.

thanks I was looking at doom9, but it wasn't clear if ripping the files would remove the region lock, the VOB files themselves aren't even encrypted.
