Im trying to reinstall win95 on a old 486 for a friend. I cant get it to boot from a floppy since the bios it set to boot first from a 5.1/2 floppy and some body put a freakin password in the bios. There is no onboard battery on the mainboard but it has a lithium battery pack connected to the mainboard. I just unplugged the battery pack. Will this kill the cmos settings including the password and how long should I have the battery pack unplugged. Does one day unplugged usually usually work with these battery packs. Thanks

Open the case and just reset the bios, the jumpers are almost always near the battery.

OK . . . then disconnect that cable and reconnect it. That should remove all residual BIOS settings including password.

if you unplug the battery (and pwr supply of course) and ground out the two pins for th battery it should clear the BIOS

Thanks all but none of it worked. I just resorted to pulling the hardrive and installing on my system and just copied the win95 sys files on it and the win95 install folder and installed it from the hardrive. Yes all this for a 486 As I stated, I was doing this for a friend that has no other computer and really cant aford another one and was trying to get a fresh install of windows since the original install had been in place for the last 5 years.
