Removing old traces of hardware?

I have three questions regarding this.

One is, I had a Netgear Phoneline NIC that I tried on Win2k but found out only supports 95/98 (btw does anyone know when Win2k support will come out?). Even though it didn't work, it installed an applet in my control panel. How do I remove this and other traces of the card?

The second is, I was trying to troubleshoot my network and removed/disabled my NIC a few times. Now my NIC is called "AMD PCnet-Home Based Adapter #3". I don't see #1 or #2 in my Device Mananger (Win2k), but when I tried setting my IP to 192.168.0.3 a message came up saying this IP was already assigned to a card on the system.

Three, I know it doesn't really matter, but for aesthetics, how can I get my network card to not have the # after it, as described above. Also, how can I get my network applet to call the LAN "Local Area Connection" rather than "Local Area Connection #2"?

Thanks in advance.

Go to ADD/REMOVE hardware in the control panel. Click NEXT, select Uninstall/Unplug a device. Click NEXT and click NEXT again. Check the box that that says Show hidden devices and check it out! LOTS of stuff in there! Have fun! :)

Cheers!
